The Thames Ring - a mudlarking ring

Sometimes a really interesting Commission comes up and this was one of them.

This ring is made with Sue’s own gold and some very special Mudlark Garnets. If you don’t know the story of these garnets then let me tell you - it’s fab! The story goes that around 1810 a baleful of garnets was lost overboard an East India Company ship when it was unloading in the Thames in London - either accidentally or someone threw them overboard to collect at a later date, but regardless of how they got there it’s true that the Thames in a certain place is still full of them and if you can get a licence to Mudlark you can go and fish them out. How amazing!!

This ring with these garnets in is an homage to where Sue grew up very near by.

I have loved making this ring for Sue and especially because she is a smashing client. Next job for her is to make new wedding rings for her and her wife Sue.
